Spider Danger

2012 / d. Andrea Ricca
Zero budget filmmaker Andrea Ricca (THE FURFANGS) returns with a new 5-minute sci-fi/horror short, guaranteed to bring out your inner¬†arachnophobe! When a man wakes up to discover his home has been invaded by dozens of wall-crawling intruders, he must rely on only his wits and his trusted bug-spray to survive! Armed with a sharp eye, a keen sense of filmmaking, and some serious computer-animation skills, Mr. Ricca once again succeeds in creating an entertaining and highly enjoyable short film. It reminds us that it is possible to make a film without a budget, provided you’re passionate enough (and creative enough) to see it through to the end. And for those who gripe about CGI monsters, he challenges our biases and shows us that if utilized well, computerized creatures can still be effective. Also: kudos to Antonio DeLuise for the very fitting and complementary musical score. To watch SPIDER DANGER and the rest of Mr. Ricca’s short films, visit his website:¬†http://www.andrearicca.com/

Ugly, The

1997 / d. Scott Reynolds
Inventive Aussie thriller that owes much of its popularity to its inclusion on the Boogeymen DVD. Timid sociopath and serial murderer Simon Cartwright specifically requests psychologist Dr. Karen Schumaker to evaluate his mental condition. The film then explores the years leading up to his incarceration: everything from his abuse-filled childhood to his gruesome series of straight-razor killings. Stylish black blood, sterile blue lighting, and a compelling story make this one highly recommended.

Slaughtered Vomit Dolls

2006 / d. Lucifer Valentine
Seriously, ugh. Love him or hate him, Lucifer Valentine has crafted a seriously nasty piece of spurting, dripping, puking horror mayhem. The “film” drags in spots and tries desperately to be “artsy” (and if actual on screen vomiting is too much for you, avoid this one at all costs). But lying in between the boobs and the aforementioned puking are some excellent gore gags, including a particularly cringe-worthy eye-gouging scene. Yeah, it’s a vomit fetish video with a horror “plot” but still worth a look for hard core gore-ophiles. Part one of Valentine’s VOMIT GORE TRILOGY, the second installment, ReGOREGITATED SACRIFICE was released in 2008.
